Everyone is crunching the numbers on the quarterly fundraising reports filed yesterday.
One stat that jumped out: just four House campaigns, excluding self-funders and congressional leadership, reported raising more than $2 million in Q2.
Three of the four are Democrats.
The problem?
Those three Democrats are all in safe seats that Kamala Harris won by 32 points or more, while the lone Republican, Young Kim, represents a district that Trump won by just 2 points.
As we covered yesterday in “How AOC got my email,” progressive candidates in safe seats are spending millions buying donors emails and cell phone numbers to pad their campaign accounts. AOC alone spent more on just buying emails last quarter ($1.3 million) than any of Welcome’s endorsed candidates raised in the quarter.
Republican donors are sending money to the battleground, while Democratic donors are funding viral videos (and ever-more list-buying). Welcome has invested in programming to change this dynamic, and we’d love to hear more ideas on how to address it.
936 days until the first presidential primary.
