Why did The Washington Post and CNN talk to Welcome co-founder
about how Democratic donors get bamboozled by candidates in race without a chance of winning?Because those same donors are missing winnable races where a contribution could really matter. That’s why we built the Win The Middle slate of candidates this year, so you know where your dollars will do the most to help Democrats win.
You get bombarded with emails, texts, mail, calls, and digital ads. Especially on days like today - the final day of the final month of the final full quarter of the election year.
Stop scrolling! Chip in a dollar!
We believe there’s a better way. We look for two things: the best bang for your buck to win the House in 2024, and the dynamic leaders who can chart a path forward for a dominant center-left faction for years to come.
Pick ‘em
WelcomePAC launched midway through the 2022 cycle, and identified 21 undervalued districts. The report showing the shocking cohort of winnable, but underfunded, races led to this headline in The Boston Globe:
In that first cycle, just four got enough funding to be competitive. But those where we saw the opportunity matched a formula: MAGA incumbents and charismatic, moderate Democratic challengers.
Now, the pundits have woken up to what The New York Times called our “Centrist Insurgency.” Both districts we invested in last cycle, Colorado's 3rd and California’s 41st, are classified by the ratings agencies as top pick-up opportunities for Democrats.
Picking Game-Changers
But it is not just finding the most undervalued districts. We also need to find the next generation of dynamic leaders who can demonstrate the path forward for a healthier politics, like the Democratic candidates who showed the path in CO-03 (Adam Frisch) and CA-41 (Will Rollins).
Here’s how
framed this long-term impact in his fantastic piece The Candidates Who Need Your Money The Most:I also want to specifically mention Whitney Fox (FL-13), Janelle Stelson (PA-10), and Rebecca Cooke (WI-3) as particularly on-brand candidates who are running as moderates in red-leaning districts against hardline MAGA types whose extremism has put the races in play for savvy Democrats. These are the kind of races that I, personally, am most interested in. Our friends at Welcome PAC are supporting all three of these women, Fox and Cooke are backed by the Blue Dog Caucus, and Stelson is a New Democrat. I want to show the world that candidates who take on the challenge of beating extremists on red terrain by showing ideological moderation and issue flexibility are supported and encouraged.
Do Something
