WelcomePAC turns five next month 🎉. Over those five years, we’ve seen spikes of people asking “What can I do?”
Now is one of those times. And people want to know what they can do right now.
The next major election is July 21 in Arizona. And the clearest investment for impact is Marlene Galán-Woods, who will give Democrats the best opportunity in a recently-opened district.
Arizona’s 1st congressional district is one of the best pick-up opportunities anywhere in the country this cycle. It’s an open seat and considered a toss-up by every ratings agency.
It also has an independent streak: in 2024, it voted for Trump by 3 points while Sen. Ruben Gallego won it by 5 points.
And Marlene matches that independent streak: the daughter of Cuban refugees who fled communism, Marlene spent decades as a broadcast journalist known for exposing corruption and holding leaders accountable. Her late husband, Grant Woods, served as Arizona's Attorney General — as a Republican. If elected, she'd be the first Latina to represent Arizona's 1st congressional district in Congress.
Marlene has what it takes to win this district. She recently signed the Promise to America, staking her campaign on a results-focused brand of politics that’s needed to win in a purple district like this one. That shows in her endorsements - the New Dems endorsed her last week:
"Marlene is battle-tested and laser-focused on lowering costs, the exact kind of person who flips and holds this tough seat," said Rep. Kim Schrier (WA-08). "House Republicans spent last year raising costs and gutting health care to hand tax breaks to the wealthy. Marlene is running to make them answer for it, and to deliver the majority in November."
Days ago, Senator Mark Kelly endorsed her as the strongest general election candidate in this field. She needs support now - give here.
The last line of her press releases notes Marlene is running for Congress to stand up to extremists. Let’s stand with her in doing that.
